From 7th September 2020, we look forward to welcoming all pupils back to school. For pupils beginning Early Years, they will have an adapted transition programme. Further information on this can be found on the Early Years Class Page
This page has been created so parents and carers have a clear understanding of the adaptations to the school day and so they have access to the latest information over the Summer Holiday.
Giving your child an advantage:
Due to COVID-19, a number of children have not attended school for a number of months. To support your child over the summer, each teacher has created a key concepts grid. These are concepts that we would expect children to be secure in before they begin the next year group.
Moving from EYFS to Year 1
Moving from Year 1 to Year 2
Moving from Year 2 to Year 3
Moving from Year 3 to Year 4
Moving from Year 4 to Year 5
Moving from Year 5 to Year 6
In addition to the concept grids, your child’s new teacher has created two transition videos: One that introduces your child’s new teacher and a second video that answers key questions following the completion of the transition questionnaires.
These videos can be viewed via Class Dojo and on your child’s new year group’s Class Page on the website
Returning to School in September:
When pupils return to school in September, there will be a number of adjustments to help keep them safe and reduce the transmission of COVID – 19. The below video sets out these changes.
In addition to the video, please see the response to frequently asked questions. These will be updated regularly during the Summer Holiday.
There are a number of books that we recommend you share with your child. By sharing the following books with your child, they will have the opportunity to share any worries that they may have.

What are the symptoms of COVID – 19?
The main symptoms of coronavirus are:
- a high temperature – this means you feel hot to touch on your chest or back (you do not need to measure your temperature)
- a new, continuous cough – this means coughing a lot for more than an hour, or 3 or more coughing episodes in 24 hours (if you usually have a cough, it may be worse than usual),
- a loss or change to your sense of smell or taste – this means you’ve noticed you cannot smell or taste anything, or things smell or taste different to normal.
Most people with coronavirus have at least 1 of these symptoms.
What do you do if you have symptoms?
If you have any of the main symptoms of coronavirus:
Stay at home (self-isolate) – do not leave your home or have visitors. Anyone you live with, and anyone in your support bubble, must also self-isolate.
Get a test – get a test to check if you have coronavirus as soon as possible. Anyone you live with, and anyone in your support bubble, should also get a test if they have symptoms.
At South Bersted Church of England Primary School, we are actively following the Government’s Test and Trace process. To ensure that we work together to reduce the risk of transmission all members of the school’s community are expected to engage in the test and trace process.
Further information on the test and trace process can be found at https://www.gov.uk/guidance/nhs-test-and-trace-how-it-works
Why is it important to wash our hands?
Coronavirus (COVID-19) is an easy virus to kill when it is on skin. This can be done with soap and running water or hand sanitiser. Regular and thorough hand cleaning is going to be needed for the foreseeable future. When your child returns to school they will be washing their hands:
- On arrival,
- Before and after eating,
- When returning from outside or changing rooms,
- Before going home.
Please ensure that your child is clear on the expectations of how to wash their hands before returning to school: https://www.nhs.uk/live-well/healthy-body/best-way-to-wash-your-hands/
